3 Actions for Constitutional Carry

Dear Friend, We are making the gun-grabbers in Augusta very nervous. Despite their hopes, Constitutional Carry (LD-660) received a strong, bi-partisan report in committee. While a 7-person majority of the committee voted to recommend against passage of Constitutional Carry, a bi-partisan minority of 6 stood strong on this important bill. Now we need your help more than ever on this crucial legislation. Take the time to accomplish these three action items today. Help make Maine a Constitutional Carry state. ACTION 1 – Pick up the phone and call your State Representative and your State Senator.  Tell them to “Support LD-660, Constitutional Carry.”…

Speak Up for Constitutional Carry

On Thursday, April 11th at 10:00 AM, your voice is needed in the fight for our 2nd Amendment Rights. The Maine Legislature’s Committee for Criminal Justice and Public Safety is holding a public hearing on LD 660, also known as “Constitutional Carry.” LD-660, Constitutional Carry, would: *** Remove the prohibition on concealing a weapon so that law-abiding citizens of Maine may carry their firearm concealed for self-defense – without having to first obtain government permission; *** Leave Maine’s Concealed Carry Permit system intact for those who choose to get the optional permit – for reciprocity or other reasons. Constitutional Carry is the most important gun rights…

Stop Taxing Our Gold and Silver Money

State Representative Aaron Libby (R-Waterboro) has introduced legislation to remove sales taxes from gold and silver U.S. coins! Passing this legislation would be an important first step to establishing monetary freedom here in the State of Maine. Yesterday, I testified in favor of this legislation in front of the Taxation Committee. Hear my testimony for yourself: Eric Brakey Testifies for Tax-Free Gold and Silver US Coins (3/25/13) I was happy to see that many legislators on the Taxation Committee were open to this bill, but the truth is, unless they hear from Maine citizens in support, this bill will likely die in committee…

Property Rights Matter

Yesterday, the Maine Legislative Judiciary Committee held open hearings on several key bills affecting our property rights, including the most publicized bill, LD 220, “An Act to Ban the United Nations Agenda 21 in Maine.” It was good  to see so many Maine citizens turn out to stand up and speak up for their rights.  The committee room was so packed with concerned citizens that two overflow rooms were opened up to hold them all. On LD 220, “An Act to Ban the United Nations Agenda 21 in Maine,” nearly one hundred citizens were present and in favor.  Only four individuals were present to speak in opposition. Eric…

DOLPAC Standing Up for Liberty

Over the last week, I’ve had a few opportunities to speak up publicly for the Cause of Liberty here in Maine. On Tuesday, I testified in Augusta in favor of LD 236, “An Act to Protect the Privacy of Citizens from Domestic Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Use.” This bill would require police to seek a warrant from a judge before being legally able to use drones to spy on Maine citizens. In my testimony, I made three points: Protecting privacy from unmanned drones is a bi-partisan issue. Police use of surveillance drones without a warrant is violates the Constitution and the conditions of a free society.…

Despite Republican Hardships, Liberty Prevails

I won’t lie to you, this was a tough election. The Republican Party was hit with a strong Democrat “Get-Out-The-Vote” effort due to excitement for Barack Obama and Issue 1. These factors made this election day difficult for anyone with an “R” next to their name. All across the state, Republican incumbents were defeated. The good news is that Defense of Liberty PAC beat the trend. Of DOLPAC’s endorsed incumbents, 83% of them were re-elected, significantly trumping the incumbent retention rate for the Maine Republican Party overall. We want to take the opportunity to congratulate all of our victorious incumbent…
